Ronay Bakan, Managing Editor

Ronay Bakan is a PhD student at the Department of Political Science, Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests include theories of state and statelessness, violence, war-making and space-making, gender as well as Middle East and Kurdish politics. In her dissertation, she explores the legal and developmentalist strategies of counterinsurgency and space-making in the Northern Kurdistan, Turkey. Her research is supported by the Nicole Suveges Fieldwork Fellowship.

Ronay received her BA and MA degrees from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Bogazici University. Previously, she was a Fox Fellow in the Fox International Fellowship at Yale University. In 2021, she was awarded the Stanley and Linda Hambleton Panitz Endowed Fellowship by the Department of Political Science at JHU.
