AMEWS Oral History Project

AMEWS has just launched a project to document its history from its early days to the present. To that end, we will be collecting and posting online statements from old and new members. Oral history is a way of telling history that is diverse and multilayered. The statements will be eclectic and varied and will we hope contribute to the wider history project. We begin with the memories of Louise Cainkar, associate professor of Social and Cultural Studies, Marquette University and longtime treasurer of AMEWS, interviewed by Ellen McLarney in San Antonio, TX, on November 16, 2018. The AMEWS Oral History committee consists of Nancy Gallagher and Sondra Hale, co-chairs, Ellen McLarney, and Sherene Hafez.
